Health Advisory: Outbreak of Life-threatening Coagulopathy Associated with Synthetic Cannabinoids Use
CDC has published a health advisory related to a multistate outbreak of coagulopathy (a condition affecting the blood's ability to clot normally) from exposure to synthetic cannabinoid products containing a vitamin K-dependent antagonist agent, such as brodifacoum. Since the Illinois Department of Public Health reported the first case in March 2018, nine states have reported 202 cases, including 5 deaths. CDC is coordinating national surveillance activities and providing information about the current status of the outbreak; signs and symptoms from this outbreak; available laboratory testing options; resources for clinicians, public health officials, and the public; and guidance on reporting possible cases.
