Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) and DreamWorks Animation SKG (NASDAQ:DWA) Team Up to Update Voltron
Voltron show commonly dubbed as “Defender of the Universe” is finding its way into the screens once more courtesy of DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (NASDAQ:DWA) and Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX). From the new teaser image, it seems like the duo has a lot to present which also gives a clear indication that the final mecha design will be something to celebrate.
Various updates can be identified on Voltron, which is already gaining immense popularity perhaps as a result of its mixed heritage. Apparently, its popularity has been going on for many years probably because of its appeal to nostalgia and enormous success of "Transformers"
Over the years, Voltron has had animated updates. However, none of them has achieved the same impact similar to what the original on provided. Besides, the several video games released over the years were also awful hence the big question remains; what new look will the new incarnation take?
On the other hand, the show was inclined on two Japanese series which, to say the least only worked as a result of the inadequate domestic competition. And after all, the merger of the two series resulted in a Franken-narrative
Nonetheless, the show was the Saturday morning cartoons for every kid in the early 80s and 2009 it was reported back as a live action under Atlas Entertainment. Unfortunately, nothing came forth from the come 2009 come back. However, in 2011 fans received their share of the "Voltron Force” and even though there was no follow-up or news for the live action rumour mill it a run of 26 episodes.
Well, Netflix will be rebooting the mecha series with additional information and will work hand in hand with DreamWorks, who owns the rights to the popular 80s cartoons.
Rebooting will also bring along a new name to the show which will now be referred to as "Voltron: Legendary Defender." Nothing much known about this series but there is certainty that it will follow the same classic Voltron formula.
At the same time, fans of the classic 80s cartoons are embracing the companies behind the reboot as good news.
