NORWALK, Conn., Dec. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Diageo North America, a global leader in beverage alcohol, announced that it has received a 2018 Supply & Demand Chain Executive Green Supply Chain Award. Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine covers the entire end-to-end global supply chain across vertical markets.
The Green Supply Chain Award recognizes companies making green or sustainability a core part of their supply chain strategy and are working to achieve measurable sustainability goals within their own operations and supply chains. "We are honored to receive this award for the second year in a row, acknowledging our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability as a priority within our business and our overall supply chain," said Erik Snyder, Diageo North America's President of Supply & Procurement. "North America has made impressive progress against global sustainability targets to reduce our environmental impact in the areas of water management, carbon emissions, waste sent to landfill and packaging." John R. Yuva, editor for Supply & Demand Chain Executive, said, "This year's award recipients place a critical emphasis on green initiatives within their companies and supply chains. Entries provide examples of innovative approaches and impressive metrics of sustainability programs." In addition to investing in new technologies and processes to support its sustainability strategy, Diageo promotes responsible practices throughout its entire supply chain. The company has published "Partnering with Suppliers Standard" guidance to drive higher standards in its supply chain, and participates in the CDP Supply Chain Program, which reports annual supplier carbon and water performance. In 2018, Diageo North America received an Environmental Merit Award for achieving significant progress in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) SmartWay program, a voluntary public-private program, which helps companies advance supply chain sustainability by measuring and benchmarking freight transportation efficiency. The company also collaborates with suppliers, other consumer goods companies, and industry associations including AIM PROGRESS for responsible sourcing, the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX) to improve supply chain and industry practices, the Glass Recycling Coalition and the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable. "We congratulate this year's honorees for their commitment to sustainability and recognize their tremendous achievements," Yuva added. "Our honorees serve as role models for supply chains globally to expand their reach and impact of green leadership." Diageo's Commitment to Environmental Sustainability: Diageo was recognized as a top global company in the 2018 Dow Jones Sustainability Index and ranked sixth in the 2017 Carbon Clear report on the sustainability performance of the FTSE 100.
