The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the acquisition of Nordex SE of Germany by Acciona of Spain.
Nordex is mainly engaged in the manufacture and marketing of wind turbines. Acciona is a diversified multinational conglomerate, with interests in areas such as infrastructure, construction and energy services.
The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, because the companies have a limited position on the market for the manufacturing of wind turbines and they will continue to face a significant number of large competitors. The Commission also assessed whether the transaction would allow the merged entity to engage in anticompetitive behaviour in related markets such as the market for the development of wind farms and the market for the generation and wholesale of electricity. However, the Commission concluded that given the companies' limited position on all markets concerned, competitors would continue to have sufficient alternative suppliers.
The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure. More information is available on the Commission's competition website, in the public case register under the case number M.7823.
