Brussels, 3 June 2016
The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the acquisition of joint control over UK WIG I Limited, of the United Kingdom by the 3i Group plc, also of the UK, and U.S. WIG Holdings LP (known as "Wood Creek") of the US, ultimately controlled by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company ("MassMutual"), also of the US.
UK WIG owns and operates communication towers and other wireless infrastructure and is currently controlled by Wood Creek. 3i Group is an investment management business. Wood Creek is a holding company and MassMutual is a life insurance company. The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, because the companies' activities do not overlap.
The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure. More information is available on the Commission's competition website, in the public case register under the case number M.8031.
