The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the acquisition of Premier Farnell of the United Kingdom by Avnet of the United States.
Premier Farnell and Avnet are wholesale distributors of electronic components, such as semiconductors, passive components, electromechanical and interconnect components and embedded systems. Their activities overlap in most European Economic Area countries.
The Commission concluded that the transaction would raise no competition concerns because the merged entity has a moderate market share in the overall market for distribution of electronic components and the increment brought about by the transaction is very small. In addition, customers would be able to source electronic components either from various alternative distributors or directly from manufacturers. The transaction was examined under the normal merger review procedure. More information is available on the Commission's competition website, in the public case register under the case number M.8183.
