Smokey's Daylilies Extends "Collections for Cancer" Through January as Owner Celebrates 5 Years in Remission
Smokey's Daylilies today announced it will be extending its cancer fundraiser “Collections for Cancer”COLDWATER, Michigan - (EINPresswire via NewMediaWire) - January 3, 2016 - Smokey's Daylilies of Coldwater, Michigan, starts 2016 on a high note, as the company today announced it will be extending its cancer fundraiser “Collections for Cancer.” The company will donate half of all collection sale revenues now through January 31st, 2016 to the effort against the dreaded disease.
Co-Owner Kevin DeLucenay, now 5 years in remission from esophageal cancer, started a battle for his life back in 2010. It was a pivotal time for Kevin and Smokey's Daylilies. After acquiring a large farm of daylilies in Illinois, the company was tasked with moving hundreds of thousands of plants back to Indiana.
Kevin battled low survival rate and debilitating effects from the esophagectomy while trying to grow the company. Without the help of online resources, research, and statistics, as well as the sheer will to survive, he might not be alive today. Kevin has stated that he hopes to spread the word about the importance of patients taking an active role in researching and understanding their own health options. He intends to raise funds to help the American Cancer Society give people the knowledge they need to make important decisions that can have a deep impact on their own health and survivability.
As Kevin notes about his own experience with cancer, “I chose to receive surgery at the Mayo clinic after researching survivability rates of patients by hospital for my surgery. I recognized my chances of surviving were much higher there.”
Kevin added that it was this life changing and eye opening experience that has compelled him to help raise awareness by raising funds through the sale of daylilies. 50% of all daylily collection sales from now through the month of December, 2015 will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Daylily collections are a great way for anyone from the beginner gardener to the experienced landscaper to add to their garden while saving up to 40% off individual daylily purchase prices. With 30 daylily collections to choose from, gardening enthusiasts can always find one that will be perfect for their needs.
To participate in the “Collections for Cancer” fundraiser, visit the company’s newly upgraded website SmokeysDaylilies.com and navigate to the collections page. Orders will be shipped the following spring, starting in May of 2016.
Smokeys Daylilies started from humble beginnings as a small garden in the back of a fireplace retail facility, with a goal to become number one in the industry. The garden progressively grew into one of the largest growers and sellers of daylilies in the industry today. They now have 38 acres of daylilies and a continuous upgrade program to ensure they can always deliver the best possible selection to customers. The company is one of America’s largest growers of these stunning daylilies, with over two thousand varieties and over five million plants in stock.
Daylilies have been favorites with gardeners for generations as a fast growing and easy to care for plant that comes back every season and proliferates without any assistance. They are the top selling perennial, perfect for home gardeners and collectors as well as commercial landscape projects.
