The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the acquisition of Procter & Gamble's beauty products businesses by Coty. The Commission concluded that strong independent players would remain active in all the concerned markets.
Coty and Procter & Gamble ("P&G") are both US manufacturers of beauty products. Their main products are fragrances, colour cosmetics and skin & body products. The Commission investigated whether the acquisition would reduce competition and lead to higher prices for these consumer goods in Europe, in particular for fragrances and colour cosmetics.
After its investigation the Commission concluded that competition in these markets would remain sufficiently strong to prevent price increases for European consumers. A full press release is available in EN, FR and DE.
