LVMPD Investigates 9th Officer Involved Shooting of 2017
Las Vegas, NV - June 20, 2017 - On June 20, 2017 at approximately 12:14 a.m. LVMPD patrol officers were dispatched to an apartment complex located in the 1100 block of South Cimarron Road to investigate reports of a domestic disturbance. Details of the call stated a female was screaming from inside an apartment and was with a child.
Arriving patrol officers located the apartment and initially did not contact anyone inside. Officers utilized the public address system from a patrol car and eventually a female and child came out. Officers then entered the apartment to check for any other occupants. While inside, officers encountered an adult male armed with a knife in a back bedroom. The officers gave the suspect several verbal commands to drop the knife and deployed electronic stun devices (ECD) during the incident. The ECDs were ineffective and the suspect lunged aggressively towards the officers causing at least two of them to fire their handguns. The suspect was transported to UMC Trauma where he was later pronounced deceased.
This is the 9th officer involved shooting of 2017. Per LVMPD policy, the identity of the four officers involved will be released after 48 hours.
