Passerby Shoots Suspect in Domestic Violence Stabbing
Las Vegas, NV - November 9, 2017 - On November 9, 2017, at approximately 9 a.m. patrol officers were dispatched to the intersection of Missouri Avenue and Tropicana Avenue to investigate reports of a shooting. Patrol officers arrived and made contact with a male who had been stabbed and another man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The investigation initiated by the LVMPD Southeast Area Command Patrol Investigations Section indicated that a passerby noticed a suspicious interaction inside a vehicle due to it rocking back and forth. As a result of his observation the passerby stopped and approached the vehicle. The preliminary investigation determined the altercation inside the vehicle was a domestic dispute between a stepfather and stepson.
The passerby noticed that a male later identified as 30 year old James Garcia, who is the stepson, appeared to be actively stabbing his stepfather inside the vehicle.The passerby, who is a CCW holder, had a firearm and screamed at Garcia to stop.
Garcia began to walk towards the passerby then stopped and returned to the vehicle where it appeared he might stab the victim once again. The passerby then fired his weapon several times striking Garcia once in the abdomen which stopped Garcia’sactions. Officers arrived on scene and requested medical for the victim and Garcia.
Medical transported the victim and Garcia to Sunrise hospital where they are currently listed in stable condition.
James Garcia currently faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
