Netgear Extender Not Connecting to the Router? Read This Out
This article will provide step by step instructions on how to connect your Netgear WiFi range extender to your existing router.
Note: If your router's SSID is hidden, your Netgear WiFi extender will not detect it during the Netgear extender setup So, in that case, you will need to enter the SSID (network name) information manually.
Below are the steps to connect your Netgear extender to the router's hidden SSID:
Plug your Netgear extender into the power source and wait a few minutes for it to boot up.
Connect your Netgear extender to your main router and wait for the router link LED on your extender to blink.
Then, open a computer or laptop and connect to my-wifiextnet.net This might load up the New Extender Setup page. If not, open a web browser on a computer, laptop or mobile device and enter www.mywifiext.net.
Click on the new extender setup button.
Complete the fields on the displayed page and click on Next.
Netgear Genie smart setup wizard displays.
Select WIFI RANGE EXTENDER button.
Note: If your router's SSID is hidden, it will not display in the list. So, in that case, you have to select “Manually input my wireless SSID” option and click on Next.
Now, enter your existing router’s SSID in Network Name (SSID) field. Also, select the same security option as your existing WiFi router is using. Enter the password (if necessary) and click on Next. It will initialize the Netgear extender to connect with your existing router’s WiFi network without any hassle.
Once your Netgear extender initializes the connection with your WiFi router, you will be prompted to enter the network name (SSID) and password of your range extender WiFi network. In case, you wish to set the same security settings and password (password) as of your existing WiFi router, then you can leave them unchanged and click on the Next button to finalize the setup process.
And, if you want to change the login credentials (SSID or password), made the necessary changes and click on Next.
Connect the WiFi-enabled devices to the new wireless network of your Netgear extender and click on the Continue to finish your new extender setup process.
Note:If you are using an Apple device, use mywifiext local instead of www.mywifiext.net.
