U.S. Marshals Capture Alleged Multimillion-Dollar Fraudster William Mize
Spokane, WA – The U.S. Marshals Service in the Eastern District of Washington this morning located and apprehended a fugitive wanted on federal charges for a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme involving false and fabricated insurance claims, including charges of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit health care fraud, money laundering and conspiracy to commit both wire and mail fraud.
William O. Mize has been on the run since 2019, when he violated his pretrial release and absconded to avoid his trial.
Known to have access to large sums of money and knowledge of creating and using false identities, Mize stayed on the run until the U.S. Marshals recently developed a lead indicating he was still living life on the water, finally locating and arresting him at a marina in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mize was taken into custody without incident and booked into a local detention facility and will be extradited to Washington.
“William Mize was a fugitive who thought that because he had financial means, he could avoid apprehension and flout the rule of law,” said Craig Thayer, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Washington. “As evidenced, this is clearly not the case. No matter the resources they have or where they run to, the U.S. Marshals will never stop in the pursuit of a fugitive until they have been brought to justice.”
The Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force is a U.S. Marshals-led partnership comprising federal, state and local law enforcement officers from Washington, Oregon and Alaska. The task force’s primary mission is to locate, arrest and return to the justice system the most violent and egregious federal and state fugitives.
