ICE updates online data dashboard
WASHINGTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement today updated the online statistics dashboard to include data for first quarter of Fiscal Year 2024, which spans from Oct. 1, 2023 through Dec. 31, 2023. In the first quarter of FY24, the agency increased total removals by more than 160% and removed 27% more noncitizens with criminal convictions or pending criminal charges compared to the same period in FY23. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations continues to prioritize its resources on threats to public safety and national security.
“With the public release of this enforcement data, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is demonstrating its commitment to openness and transparency,” said ICE Deputy Director and Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Director Patrick J. Lechleitner. “We will continue to evaluate and enhance how the agency communicates measurable data to best inform how our officers and special agents perform their law enforcement missions.”
“Every day, our officers and staff work tirelessly to preserve national security and public safety by enforcing our nation’s immigration laws,” said Enforcement and Removal Operations Executive Associate Director Daniel A. Bible. “The statistical dashboard makes key data easily available through ICE.gov.”
In the first quarter of FY 2024, total arrests of noncitizens with criminal convictions or pending criminal charges increased 7% compared to the same period in FY 2023. Criminal arrests as a share of total arrests increased from 34% to 61% over the same time period. Since its launch in December 2023, the ICE Data Dashboard has made interior civil immigration enforcement statistics available in an interactive dashboard for arrests, detention, alternatives to detention, and removals.
This update marks the first quarterly data update since the launch of the dashboard. Data from FY 2020 through the first quarter FY 2024 can be accessed through the dashboard. The data is searchable nationwide or by ERO’s 25 field offices and will be updated quarterly.
The statistical dashboard includes:
- Arrests: Arrest data is available based on criminality including individuals with U.S. criminal convictions, those with pending charges, and those with no convictions or pending charges but who have violated U.S. immigration laws.
- Detention: Detention data is available by country of citizenship and criminality. Most detained individuals are transferred from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) based on a recent apprehension conducted at the border. Individuals in detention also include those with final orders of removal who will be imminently removed or those who are subject to mandatory detention.
- Alternatives to Detention (ATD): ATD uses technology and case management to more closely monitor the more than 7 million cases assigned to the non-detained docket. The level of supervision and technology assigned to participants is based on their current immigration status, criminal history, compliance history, community, or family ties, being a caregiver or provider or other humanitarian or medical conditions.
- Removals: ICE removals include returns, such as voluntary returns of inadmissible noncitizens who are turned over to ERO for detention and removal; voluntary departures; and arriving noncitizens’ withdrawal of applications for admission. ICE removals under Title 8 authority also include noncitizens processed by CBP for Expedited Removal (ER).
