FBI Returns Mario Guadalupe Vasquez to United States to Face Homicide Charges
November 20, 2025 - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Sacramento Field Office and Fairfield Police Department are announcing the apprehension of Mario Guadalupe Vasquez. On November 19, 2025, Vasquez, who was the subject of a January 2024 international publicity campaign, was returned to the United States to face homicide charges.
"Criminals have nowhere to hide. We will find them. We’re holding criminals accountable thanks to the unwavering strength of our domestic and international law enforcement partners and the crucial support of the public. Every arrest delivers justice to the victims’ families," said FBI Sacramento Special Agent in Charge Sid Patel.
On November 18, 2025, Vasquez was deported to the United States by Mexican Immigration (Instituto Nacional de Migracion) after determining he did not have lawful immigration status in Mexico following his arrest for domestic violence and drug charges in Puebla, Mexico. Vasquez's return to the United States to face prosecution was funded by the United States government's "Project Welcome Home," which supports the transportation of federal fugitives to the United States. The FBI Houston Field Office assisted with Vasquez's return.
The Solano County District Attorney's Office charged Vasquez with homicide on March 20, 2013. According to court documents, Vasquez is alleged to have shot and killed 20-year-old Jesus Adrian "Jessie" Gutierrez Amaya during an attempted robbery on Hayes Street in Fairfield, California, on February 1, 2012. All charges are mere allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The FBI continues to collaborate with its law enforcement partners to apprehend criminals charged with crimes who flee to avoid prosecution. Cases seeking information from the public, including fugitive matters, are posted on the FBI Sacramento Field Office’s Wanted page and the FBI Wanted app. Anyone with information that may aid these types of cases should contact their local FBI office, United States embassy, or submit information online at tips.fbi.gov.
