How Katherine Schutt Uplifts Her Community Through Health Advocacy
UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / March 21, 2025 /Katherine Elaine Schutt, BSPH, CCHW, is a dedicated community health worker and educator committed to addressing social determinants of health and expanding access to vital resources for patients in need. A recent inductee of Marquis Who 's Who and a certified community health worker with Genesys PHO, Ms. Schutt works directly with patients both in the emergency department at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital and in the office, connecting individuals with the services and support necessary to improve their well-being.

Supporting the Health, Livelihood and Happiness of the Community
Ms. Schutt 's community work is based on a broad foundation of skill and passion. She earned a Bachelor of Science in public health from the University of Michigan-Flint in 2021 before pursuing certification as a community health worker through the Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance. In her role at Genesys PHO, she provides essential resources to individuals facing homelessness, food insecurity, job instability and other socioeconomic hardships. By addressing the underlying barriers to health and happiness, she works to improve long-term outcomes for the patients she serves.
Ms. Schutt views her work as a natural extension of her own lived experience. A serious car accident at age 16 led to multiple surgeries. These events shaped her understanding of the health care system and filled her with a desire to assist others in times of crisis. Beyond her own motivations and experiences, she credits her family, church community and upbringing for instilling in her a strong sense of compassion and responsibility.
A Broader Focus on Education and Mentorship
In addition to her work in the health field, Ms. Schutt has also dedicated more than a decade to music education, teaching private piano and flute lessons at Grand Blanc Music since 2014. Her passion for music is deeply personal, and this connection has driven her commitment to helping students develop both technical skills and a love for the instrument. She has also served as an aquatics instructor at Henry Ford Genesys Health Club since 2016, teaching swimming lessons to children and adults. Whether in music, swimming or public health, her dedication to education and skill-building parallels her lifelong focus on the health, happiness and growth of her community.
Ms. Schutt 's community efforts extend even further with her nonprofit work. She has volunteered with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Catholic Charities and multiple soup kitchens. Her work with the Hospital Elder Life Program at Hurley Medical Center and International Orthodox Christian Charities is one more example of her work to enhance the health and happiness of those in need. Her work has earned her the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
In the near future, Ms. Schutt hopes to expand her role in music education by obtaining a teaching certificate while she continues her work in community health. She credits her success to the work ethic instilled by her parents and the strong support of her community, which have shaped her dedication to both health advocacy and education.
