Marquis Who’s Who Honors Bowen Nance Swersey for Excellence in Publishing
UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / March 21, 2025 /Marquis Who 's Who honors Bowen Nance Swersey for his excellence in publishing. Recognized as a Top Business Owner, Mr. Swersey is an author and publisher at Winter Fox Books, where he utilizes a diverse skill set in the arts to achieve success.

About Mr. Swersey
Mr. Swersey is a multi-talented individual whose creative endeavors have left a lasting impact across various artistic domains. Early on in his creative professional journey, he earned a bachelor 's degree in English literature and writing from Colgate University in 1988.
Writing under the pseudonym Winter Fox, Mr. Swersey is a prolific author who has attracted devoted audiences with his many books. His storytelling skills and imagination are reflected in his Middle Age historical saga "Flight of the Wren," "Voyage of the White Bear" and subsequent novels. He is also the author of the Grace Coffin series, whose well-crafted characters and humorous mysteries have delighted readers. He also dabbles in the realm of poetry and his expressive verses are showcased in collections like "Bread Crumbs" and "Naked." These poetry collections were hand-crafted and leather-bound by Mr. Swersey in his own workshop.
Inspired by the Viking Age
Since childhood, Mr. Swersey has been a passionate reader, which inspired his writing. While life, music, love and work took priority over his creative process early on, he was later inspired to write the "Flight of the Wren" series due to his curiosity about the Viking Age. Diving into research, he sought the connective thread that explained the relatively sudden end to the dominance of the Vikings in Northern Europe.
Armed with two years of research, Mr. Swersey wrote a historical fiction saga that features a broad cast of characters, many of whom are women. The main protagonist, Hilja, is a young shaman from Lapland.
Writing Closer to Home
In 2018, when the #MeToo movement took center stage, Mr. Swersey began writing a novel a bit closer to home.
Based on his wife 's challenges in her own childhood, he developed the character Grace Coffin, who was named after one of his wife 's aunts. "Grace Coffin and the Badly-Sewn Corpse" is a coming-of-age story that begins with a disaffected young woman who quickly realizes that pushing everyone away will not help her figure out the mystery of the dead couple whose house she now lives in with her mother. It is also the story of the undead neighbor, Cormac Boisverde, who is seeking his redemption by stalking his former neighborhood. This humorous and gruesome story of redemption takes place on Mount Desert Island, where Mr. Swersey lives.
Outside of Writing
Beyond his writing endeavors, Mr. Swersey explored work on the stage with his play "Pandemonium," which he wrote, produced and directed at the Barn Arts Collective. His musical endeavors include early solo efforts "Flying Dreams" and "Gypsy Star Lover Dancer." He is also a founding member of The Beatroots, a Bar Harbor-based band that published two albums in the 1990s; "Dig the Beat," and "Secret Door." They toured widely in the Northeast, doing 100 shows a year from 1994 to 2000. His new band, King Tide, is his latest musical endeavor, with a repertoire including more than two dozen original songs as well as re-imagined classic rock covers.
In 2021, Mr. Swersey injured his left hand in a chop saw accident that prevented him from playing guitar for over six months. Returning to the guitar without the use of his left index finger forced him to reinvent his style. "I had watched Ritchie Havens play several shows and he only played in open D tuning," says Mr. Swersey. "I had played in open D before, so I knew it would work with only three fingers."
Now, like his idol, Mr. Swersey plays his sets in the D tuning. "It forces me to rephrase the chords, sometimes completely reinvent the songs, including my originals. I am also very grateful to the Emerald Guitar Company in Donegal, Ireland for building my custom 12-string guitar. Without this amazing instrument, I could not have played guitar at this level again." He continues to write new songs every year and performs every few weeks.
In addition to these pursuits, Mr. Swersey is also a successful entrepreneur and the owner of Acadia Stone and Garden, a stonework company that specializes in landscape design and installation. Recently, he has worked on the restoration of several historic stone structures in his hometown of Southwest Harbor, including the granite Mill Dam on Norwood Cove and the recovery and reconstruction of a 19th-century stone wall on Clark Point.
Crediting his success to his positive attitude, willingness to learn, and his mentors, Mr. Swersey advises aspiring writers to simply begin and then continue writing. Continue producing and growing artistically, as he believes talent is built by hard work. Having written eight books so far, he is grateful to those who have encouraged him throughout his life, especially Bert Swersey, his mentor and second cousin.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Swersey remains committed to his life 's goal of mastering diverse areas of expertise, mentoring young artists, expanding his literary repertoire and furthering his contributions to local culture on Mount Desert Island. With a spirit of innovation and a dedication to excellence, he continues to inspire through his endeavors and entrepreneurial spirit.
