"I 've been a credit analyst before I was even a loan officer," he says. Ten years later, he found his true calling as a mortgage lender.
The highlight of his career came during the COVID-19 pandemic. "At the end of 2019, I made a career move to work for Pentagon Federal Credit Union," Mr. Baker said. There, he worked with veterans and government employees across the globe, including clients in Tokyo, Japan. With an ability to adapt to a changing market, he excelled in the position. During his two-year tenure, he ranked as a top producer nearly 80% of the time.
Mortgage Solutions for Diverse Markets
A shift in mortgage industry regulations appears to fare well for home buyers. More lenient policies now allow for little to no down payments. It 's an opportunity Mr. Baker leverages for his clients. "We can do a soft second mortgage with the purchase where you can do 97% on the primary mortgage and then 3% on a down payment assistance (DPA)," he says. These new relaxed regulations can benefit first-time buyers in particular.
Mr. Baker primarily focuses on the New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania tri-state area. During his work, he caters to diverse needs ranging from renovation loans to investment properties. "If you 're a builder and want to have new construction built from the ground up, purchase land and get all the financing covered at 95%, we can do that," he said.
Leadership and Giving Back
Civic involvement is another facet of Mr. Baker 's impact on the community. "I do volunteer work through Rotary International," he said. "I was a two-time president of a Rotary Club in Kennett Square." Working alongside two other local Rotary clubs, he helps spearhead initiatives like Project C.U.R.E., which provides medical equipment to underserved areas worldwide.
Additionally, Mr. Baker 's contributions to the YMCA and the Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce reinforce his dedication to service. These activities reflect his desire to help others through philanthropy and in business. "People call me at 10 o 'clock at night," he said. "If I 'm available, I 'll answer the phone."
A Career of Lasting Impact
Mr. Baker remains committed to the mortgage industry. However, he aims to re-establish his footing in the real estate market. Meanwhile, he plans to continue his volunteer work. Whether assisting first-time buyers or supporting community programs, he intends to leave a lasting impact wherever his career takes him.
A firm believer in long-term relationships, Mr. Baker sees mortgage lending as more than just numbers and transactions. "A big part of my success is working with Realtors to make a good, solid relationship for people," he said.
