Journey to Stardom
Before Dr. Knowles launched his career in the entertainment industry, he began in retail as a sales specialist at Xerox Corporation from 1978 to 1980. Then, he transitioned to Xerox Medical Systems, which was the leading modality for breast cancer detection, as a medical salesperson between 1980 and 1988, where he was the worldwide number-one sales rep for three out of four years. Other positions Dr. Knowles has held during his career include serving as a CT and MRI sales specialist at Phillips Medical Systems from 1988 to 1992. During this time, he also entered into business ownership and was the co-owner of Headlines Hair & Nail Salon between 1982 and 1998 as well as Hair International Publications.
In 1992, Dr. Knowles joined Codman, a division of Johnson & Johnson, as a neurosurgical sales and marketing specialist. He also founded Music World Entertainment Corporation, where he continues to serve as its president. Dr. Knowles pursued other ventures over the next decade, including serving as division president of Music World/Sanctuary Urban from 2002 to 2009 (Earth Wind and Fire, O 'jays, Chaka Kahn, Kool & The Gang, Sunshine Anderson and others). During this same time, Dr. Knowles built the largest independent gospel label in the world (Trinitee 5:7, LeAndria Johnson, Brian Courtney Wilson, Juanita Bynum, and Vanessa Bell Armstrong). Additionally, between 2001 and 2009, he was the co-owner and chief marketing officer at Beyond Production (House of Dereon-Dereon-Miss Tina brands).
Dr. Knowles remains the current president of Music World Entertainment, leading the company for over 30 years and establishing it as a prominent entity in the music world. He has had much success in the entertainment sector, serving as the producer for more than 100 award-winning multi-platinum albums across various genres. He has produced number-one soundtracks such as "Fighting Temptations," "Cadillac Records," "Roll Bounce" and "Dreamgirls," which are all part of his Music World Label. Dr. Knowles also served as the executive producer of the 2009 thriller film "Obsessed," which topped the U.S. box office during its first week and grossed over $73 million worldwide.
Other Ventures and Achievements
Successfully venturing into writing Dr. Knowles is an accomplished author with several publications, which include "The DNA of Achievers," "The Emancipation of Slaves Through Music," "Racism from the Eyes of a Child," "Media & PR in a Digital Age" and "Destiny 's Child: The Untold Story." He is presently working on revisions of his current books an also working on a new upcoming book and is involved in a documentary about Destiny 's Child. Dr. Knowles, along with his wife, Gena Knowles, are currently co-producers of the Broadway hit "A Wonderful World", the story of Louis Armstrong.
Beyond business and writing, Dr. Knowles was a professor at Texas Southern University from 2008 to 2017, a visiting professor at Prairie View A&M University from 2017 to 2021 and University of Houston in 2022. He continues contributing to academia, serving as a visiting professor at the London College of Contemporary Music since 2021 and at Pepperdine University since 2022.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Knowles is also a brand ambassador for ZERO Prostate Cancer and a global brand ambassador at 23andMe.
Dr. Knowles ' personal academic achievements have been instrumental to his professional journey. He received a Bachelor of Arts in economics and business administration from Fisk University, followed by a Master of Business Administration in strategic leadership and organizational culture and a Doctor of Philosophy in business administration from Cornerstone Christian University. Furthering his education, he has also completed professional development courses in cultural intelligence and ethical leadership at Harvard University.
While earning numerous awards in the music industry, Dr. Knowles most notable achievement remains watching his daughters Solange and Beyoncé 's dreams come true. He is proud to have been able to contribute to their success. Dr. Knowles had managed Destiny 's Child, the number one female group of all time, and managed both of his daughters ' Beyonce ' and Solange solo careers for over 20 years, which included their first three albums. This provided an undisputable foundation for both successes. Beyonce ' has been ranked the top artist of the century, mostly due to the strategic architecture of her career by her father, along with her natural talent, creativity and work ethic.
Dr. Knowles attributes his success to several factors, including his upbringing and his parents ' influence.
