ALT Alliance Explores the Future of Culture Through Art and Technology
NEW YORK CITY, NY / ACCESS Newswire / May 22, 2025 /ALT Alliance, in partnership with VSDesign, presents Fractured Horizons: The Future of Heritage & Innovation, a weeklong program running from May 15 to 21 as part of the NYCxDESIGN International Spotlight. This event explores how tradition and innovation can work together through art, design, and technology. The program is organized into three thematic sections: Future Symphony, Eastern Co-creation, and Resonance Realm - each offering a fresh perspective on culture and creativity in a global context.
Future Symphony explores how art and design can shape future thinking while remaining grounded in cultural heritage. Through exhibitions and talks, this section highlights how creators use technology to engage with memory, identity, and imagination. It reflects on how cultural elements can be retained in modern settings, and how creativity offers new ways to address ongoing issues such as climate change.
Eastern Co-creation focuses on Chinese brands expanding their influence across borders. It showcases how companies use tools such as smart manufacturing, social media, and emotional storytelling to connect with international audiences. Speakers will discuss building a strong global presence while staying rooted in cultural heritage - illustrating how design and branding can be both modern and meaningful.
Resonance Realm centers on the role of art and culture in healing and care. This segment brings together artists, designers, and public health experts to explore how creative practices can promote emotional well-being, build community, and inspire compassion. Programming includes tea meditation, inclusive design talks, and climate-focused exhibitions - showing how small, mindful experiences can have a lasting impact on how people relate to one another and the environment.
A highlight of the program is the exhibition Elements in Flux, taking place from May 16 to 18 at Peterson House. This group show, curated by Neil Wang, an emerging curator with a strong passion for environmental engineering, connects the ancient Chinese philosophy of the Five Phases-Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water-with contemporary ideas of sustainability. Featured artists include Huaqi Liu, Wei-Chen Lou, Nuohan Jiang, Najata Wang, Riva Wang, Ziyi Zhang, and ArtEats. The exhibition presents paintings, photography, installations, and experimental films, organized into three parts: Where the Water Goes, Between Metal and Fire, and Thawing Earth, Breathing Soil. Each section reflects different aspects of the natural world as interpreted through diverse media.
The opening reception on May 17 includes talks by three featured speakers:
Jared FitzGerald, artist and founder of KAI Gallery, discussed navigating cultural identity in his artistic practice.
Deric Carner, Associate Director at The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, shared insights into community-based art and residency programs.
Yasmany Arboleda, founder of The People 's Creative Institute, spoke on sustainability and creative impact.
As part of the Resonance Realm section, ALT Alliance presented two additional programs: a virtual panel discussion and an in-person Chinese tea ceremony. On May 16, ALT Alliance hosted a virtual panel titled Inclusive Technology: Art, Design, and Innovation for Accessible Communities, running from 3:00 to 4:00 PM ET. Panelists explored how art and digital tools foster emotional connection and support underserved communities. Topics include art therapy, barriers in healthcare design, and the future of digital support systems.
Another key event is the Chinese Tea Ceremony and Music Experience, held on May 17 at Teasthetic. Two sessions were hosted, each featuring live erhu music, a guided tea ceremony, and moments of quiet reflection. The event invited guests to slow down and contemplate the intersection of tradition, culture, and presence.
