Owner Cen Yuheng Speaks on Stolen Corgi Leading Seven Dogs in Escape
Owner Cen Yuheng shares the story behind Jiang, the fearless corgi at the center of a viral rescue that captivated millions
HEILONGJIANG PROVINCE, CHINA / ACCESS Newswire / March 24, 2026 /Cen Yuheng, a resident of Heilongjiang province in northeastern China, shared in a recent interview how he first met his corgi, Jiang, in a moment he describes as both heartbreaking and life changing.
Years ago, Jiang had fallen into the hands of black market wholesalers and transporters, networks accused of stealing pet dogs and funneling them into the meat trade. While such activity is illegal in many regions, enforcement can vary, allowing these operations to persist.
"I found him terrified, " Cen said. "He didn 't trust anyone. But I knew I couldn 't leave him there. "
Cen chose to adopt Jiang and carefully nursed him back to health. Over time, the once fearful dog grew into a lively and affectionate companion. Today, Cen describes Jiang not simply as a pet, but as family and his closest companion.
Seven pet dogs stolen from a village in northeastern China have gone viral after pulling off a dramatic escape and making their way back home on their own.
The group is believed to have travelled around 17km together, navigating busy roads and open fields before reuniting with their owners just days later.
Clips of the dog squad went viral on March 16, when a passerby spotted the canines moving in formation along a highway and filmed the moment. The clip quickly spread online, with viewers noting how the group appeared to be highly coordinated.
Seven dogs unite in daring escape
According to the South China Morning Post, the dogs were taken by thieves working for a dog meat shop and escaped from a moving truck. Among the seven dogs, Jiang, Cen 's corgi, was identified as part of the group and appeared to take on a leading role.
Witnesses noted the corgi repeatedly looking back to check on the others, while the group stayed tightly together and surrounded an injured German shepherd in the center. Other breeds, including Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and a Pekingese, followed closely behind.
Footage of the escape has since spread rapidly online, with one widely shared clip gaining massive traction across social media as viewers react to the dogs ' coordination and determination.
More footage later showed the dogs crossing nearby fields, continuing to move as a unit and ignoring attempts from bystanders to redirect them.
Local rescuers later confirmed all seven dogs came from the same village, where they were known to roam together and had formed strong bonds. Volunteers tracked their progress as they continued heading in the same direction, and by March 19, all seven dogs had reunited with their owners.
Cen also shared that he was not surprised Jiang helped lead the group, describing the corgi as fearless and determined, especially when it comes to finding his way home.
In China, stealing a dog is treated as a criminal offense, with penalties ranging from fines to prison.
