Field of Screams Takes Its Crew to Hersheypark Ahead of 34th Season
Lancaster County haunted attraction spends a July day off with the team that runs it
MOUNTVILLE, PA / ACCESS Newswire / July 28, 2026 /Field of Screams, the Lancaster County haunted attraction co-founded by brothers Gene and Jim Schopf in 1993, spent a Monday in July doing something its guests never see. The company closed the planning binders, loaded up its team and headed to Hersheypark for a full day at the park.

The group worked its way through the park and across to ZooAmerica, the wildlife park attached to Hersheypark, where the crew stopped at the bear height chart to see how they measured up against a standing black bear. The rest of the day ran the way these days do: rides, a long lunch at the picnic tables, photo booth prints, and a lot of standing around in the July heat with people they mostly see after dark.
The timing is deliberate. July sits in the narrow window between the spring event calendar and the start of the fall season, when the attraction 's four haunts come back to life across its 35-acre campus. For a business that runs on the energy of hundreds of seasonal performers, the summer stretch is when leadership invests in the people who carry the season.
"Our people are the product. You can build the best sets in the country, but what a guest remembers is the person who came out of the corn at the right moment. Taking everybody to Hersheypark for the day was our way of saying thank you before we ask them for two months of nights and weekends, " said Jim Schopf, co-founder and co-owner of Field of Screams.

The trip follows a stretch of community investment by the company. Earlier this month Field of Screams announced more than $23,000 in donations to three Mountville organizations: a batting cage for the Mountville Youth Athletic Association, an outdoor classroom at Mountville Elementary School, and continued support of the Mountville Community Services Foundation.
Field of Screams opens its 2026 season on September 11 with all four attractions running: the Haunted Hayride, Den of Darkness, Frightmare Asylum and Nocturnal Wasteland. Information on tickets and seasonal positions is available at fieldofscreams.com.
