Alter Behavioral Health Plans Q4 2026 San Diego Expansion in Response to Increased Demand
The planned expansion will build on Alter 's existing San Diego crisis stabilization and residential mental health services for adults.
SAN DIEGO, CA / ACCESS Newswire / August 13, 2026 /Alter Behavioral Health today announced plans to expand its San Diego presence in Q4 2026 in response to increased demand for the organization 's mental health services.
Alter currently provides crisis stabilization and residential mental health treatment for adults in San Diego, along with consultation for partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. The planned expansion reflects the organization 's continued growth in the region and its effort to respond to demand while maintaining a personalized approach to care.
Building on Alter 's Existing San Diego Services
Alter 's current San Diego facility provides 24/7 clinical support for adults experiencing mental health crises in a calm, home-like setting. Its services support people facing conditions that include depression, anxiety, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and psychosis, and co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns.
Alter is targeting Q4 2026 for the expansion. The anticipated timing reflects the organization 's current plan and may be refined as the project progresses.
"Demand for our services in San Diego has continued to grow, and this planned expansion is about responding to that need responsibly, " said Michael Castanon, founder and CEO of Alter Behavioral Health. "As we grow, our priority remains the same: providing personalized care in an environment where patients feel safe, supported, and understood. "
Responding to Regional Behavioral Health Needs
Alter 's planned expansion comes as San Diego County continues working to increase behavioral health capacity across the region. A December 2025 report from San Diego County Behavioral Health Services described new investments in crisis stabilization and inpatient psychiatric care. The report also cited a 2022 regional needs assessment estimating that more than 18,500 additional behavioral health professionals would be needed by 2027 to meet local demand for mental health and substance use services.
Alter 's expansion is a separate private initiative, but it reflects the same broader need for accessible behavioral health services in the San Diego region.
A Continued Commitment to Personalized Care
Alter Behavioral Health 's treatment model combines evidence-based clinical care with individualized treatment planning and support for patients and their families. The San Diego program is designed to help adults stabilize during a mental health crisis and identify appropriate next steps in care.
