Mysterious Radio Broadcast Sends 824 Treasure Hunters to MD Diet Clinic in Search of $10,000
SALT LAKE CITY, UT / ACCESS Newswire / October 22, 2026 /What happens when a mysterious radio broadcast leads hundreds of treasure hunters to a medical weight loss clinic? At MD Diet, Weight Loss & Nutrition in Salt Lake City, the answer was lines wrapping around the block, treasure maps written in invisible ink, and an estimated 824 visitors searching for a hidden QR code that ended up being in an old bank vault.
As an official sponsor and secret checkpoint location for Utah Treasure Hunts ' 2026 QR Code Treasure Hunt, MD Diet became the center of an elaborate puzzle that sent participants across Utah in pursuit of a $10,000 grand prize.
Treasure hunters began receiving cryptic hints through email and Instagram directing them to listen to a particular radio station. There, a coded sequence of numbers, reminiscent of Cold War-era intelligence broadcasts, provided the clues needed to uncover the location of the next QR code.
The answer led them to an unlikely destination: MD Diet, Weight Loss & Nutrition, located at 3655 South State Street in Salt Lake City.
Hundreds Line Up to Search for Hidden Treasure
By 7:30 a.m., enthusiastic treasure hunters were already gathering outside the clinic, hoping to be among the first to complete the challenge. As the morning progressed, lines stretched around the block.
Inside, another puzzle awaited.
Participants were given a treasure map featuring markings written in invisible ultraviolet (UV) ink. Using the map and its hidden clues, they had to find the X marking the spot, which ultimately led to a QR code concealed inside a bank vault.
The experience transformed the medical weight-loss clinic into an interactive treasure-hunting destination, drawing an estimated 824 visitors.
Outside, participants enjoyed hot cocoa and ironically donuts as they waited their turn, an amusing contrast to the clinic 's everyday focus on nutrition and weight management.
The location served as QR Code #2 in the four-checkpoint hunt. While the third QR code has since been discovered, the fourth remains unsolved, and the race for the final treasure continues.
A Partnership Focused on Getting Utah Moving
For MD Diet, the unusual event was more than an opportunity to introduce hundreds of Utah residents to the clinic. It represented a chance to partner with an organization that shares its commitment to helping people get outside, stay active, and build healthier lifestyles.
For more than 48 years, MD Diet has taken a comprehensive approach to medical weight loss, combining physician-supervised treatment with personalized nutrition plans, body-composition monitoring, and ongoing support. Unlike programs that focus primarily on prescribing medication, MD Diet integrates GLP-1 treatments, including semaglutide and tirzepatide, into individualized weight-loss programs designed to help patients develop sustainable habits alongside their medical treatment.
That philosophy made Utah Treasure Hunts a natural partner. While GLP-1 medications can be powerful tools for weight management, MD Diet emphasizes that long-term success involves more than medication alone. Proper nutrition, maintaining muscle mass, regular physical activity, and developing healthy habits are all important components of its approach.
"We spend every day helping people build healthier lives, and a big part of that is finding reasons to get outside and move with the people they love, " said John Behle, owner of MD Diet, Weight Loss & Nutrition. "Utah Treasure Hunts has built something special for this state. Families are hiking trails and solving puzzles together, and we are proud to help make this year 's hunt possible. "
The partnership brings that philosophy to life. By supporting an event that encourages thousands of Utahns to explore their communities, solve puzzles, and enjoy outdoor adventures together, MD Diet hopes to reinforce the idea that healthy living can be both rewarding and fun.
Through its medical weight loss clinic, MD Diet continues to help patients combine modern medical treatments with practical nutrition and lifestyle strategies, with a focus on achieving results they can maintain long after reaching their weight-loss goals.
The Hunt Isn 't Over: Utahns Can Still Join the Adventure
Founded in 2020, Utah Treasure Hunts has become a statewide tradition, bringing Utah residents together through free outdoor adventures, puzzles, and hidden treasure.
The organization has attracted more than 100,000 participants across its history, with 15 completed hunts and more than $275,000 in prizes awarded.
The 2026 QR Code Treasure Hunt features four QR checkpoints, each requiring participants to solve clues and discover a hidden location before advancing.
Although three QR checkpoints have been solved, QR Code #4 remains outstanding as of October 19, and the $10,000 grand prize is still in play.
The hunt is free to enter, and participants can join even after the event has started.
Utah residents interested in joining the adventure can register, follow the clues, and check the leaderboard at utahtreasurehunts.com.
MD Diet will continue supporting Utah Treasure Hunts throughout the event and encourages Utah families to get involved.
