$70,000 in funding support to help communities recover from severe storms and flooding, including Northwest Indiana, Muncie, Richmond, Noblesville and Cambridge City GREENWOOD, Ind., Aug. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Indiana American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF), a philanthropic non-profit organization established by American Water, are providing financial assistance and on-the-ground support to communities impacted by severe storms and flooding across Indiana. Through a combination of disaster relief grants and strategic community investments, AWCF and Indiana American Water have committed more than $70,000 to organizations assisting residents and families recovering from recent weather-related emergencies. In addition, Indiana American Water employees worked tirelessly throughout the storms, keeping back up power operational and sandbagging facilities to help continue providing safe, clean, reliable and affordable drinking water and wastewater services through the storms. "When weather events impact Indiana communities, our employees don't hesitate to step up," said Barry L. Suits, President of Indiana American Water. "Whether they're helping maintain critical water and wastewater systems or supporting emergency response efforts -- even when their own families and communities are facing storm-related challenges -- our team remains committed to serving fellow Hoosiers. In addition, we are grateful for the support of the American Wate Charitable Foundation, who helped provide meaningful relief and recovery assistance across Indiana. These grants, combined with the commitment of our employees, reflect our mission to support the health and well-being of the communities we serve." The American Water Charitable Foundation awarded $55,000 to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts following widespread storm and flood damage across Indiana. This assistance follows an additional $25,000 disaster relief grant provided in June this year to support tornado recovery efforts in the state. In addition to disaster relief grants, funding was provided through the Foundation's State Strategic Impact Grant Program to support local organizations providing supplemental assistance to residents affected by recent storms and flooding. Organizations receiving grants include:
Complementing these relief efforts, Indiana American Water donated $2,500 to both the City of Muncie and the City of Richmond to assist with local response and recovery activities in the aftermath of the flooding. Beyond financial support, Indiana American Water employees mobilized to help safeguard critical infrastructure and support affected communities throughout the state. In Northwest Indiana, utility employees worked around the clock to maintain water and wastewater operations during the severe weather conditions. Several employees continued serving customers even while parts of their own communities experienced extended power outages and damage to property. In Muncie, water operations personnel helped protect critical treatment infrastructure as floodwaters rose by assisting with efforts to secure and safeguard facilities, helping maintain reliable service for customers during the storms. The company's support also extended beyond its service territory. Indiana American Water deployed a mobile drinking water semi-trailer to Cambridge City to assist local emergency response and recovery efforts, providing an additional resource for neighboring community leaders and first responders as they worked to support residents impacted by flooding. "These recovery efforts demonstrate the resilience of Indiana communities and the dedication of countless organizations, volunteers and first responders," Suits continued. "We are proud to partner with organizations such as the American Red Cross, Legacy Foundation and Hamilton County Community Foundation to help provide relief and support long-term recovery in the communities we serve and neighboring communities that need assistance."
