ATLANTA, Oct. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern Company teams are restoring power across Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi following Hurricane Isaias, leveraging the scale of the company's system and experienced teams while utilizing advanced storm intelligence technologies, including AI, to help return service to customers safely and as quickly as possible. The company's electric utilities - Alabama Power, Georgia Power and Mississippi Power - together have already restored power to approximately 420,000 customers as of 6 p.m. ET today. Crews continue working to restore power for approximately 80,000 remaining customer outages in the hardest-hit communities - primarily in Alabama where Hurricane Isaias crossed through the state. "Our customers are counting on us long before a storm arrives and long after it passes," said Chris Womack, chairman, president and CEO of Southern Company. "By combining advanced storm intelligence technologies with the experience of our storm response teams and the scale of our electric and natural gas companies, we're able to position resources ahead of severe weather, respond quickly as conditions change and restore service safely for our customers." Alabama Power, Georgia Power and Mississippi Power have worked together to move crews, equipment and resources where they are needed most. The companies' response has been strengthened by more than 6,400 outside personnel including additional lineworkers, support roles and specialized equipment secured through the electric industry's long-standing mutual assistance network. Combined with Southern Company's own resources, utility crews and contractors from 25 states are supporting a coordinated restoration effort across the company's Southeast service territory. The coordination also extends to the company's natural gas subsidiaries with Southern Company Gas, Atlanta Gas Light and Chattanooga Gas working closely with Georgia Power to support restoration as needed and emergency response. Before Hurricane Isaias made landfall, Southern Company teams used advanced storm technologies to forecast potential impacts, identify areas at greatest risk and strategically position crews, equipment and materials across the Southeast. By combining predictive analytics, real-time operational data and decades of storm response experience, teams were able to anticipate changing conditions, make faster decisions and begin restoration efforts as soon as it was safe to do so. Womack added that preparedness is a year-round commitment at Southern Company. Every day, Southern Company invests in its grid, infrastructure, technologies, processes and people to strengthen reliability and better serve customers. From advanced forecasting tools and resource planning to workforce training and infrastructure improvements, these ongoing efforts help the company prepare for extreme weather and restore service safely and efficiently when customers need it most.
