Grants support pathways to opportunity through affordable housing, financial education and workforce development DETROIT, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ally Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Ally Financial, today announced grants to nonprofit organizations across Detroit and Charlotte, two of its hometowns, to build lasting pathways to economic mobility. The more than $2.5 million in grants span three interconnected pillars informed by community research: affordable housing, financial education and workforce development, each of which plays a critical role in helping people build long-term financial stability.
Since 2020, the Ally Charitable Foundation has invested more than $45 million across primarily Detroit and Charlotte, recognizing that lasting opportunity is created when solutions work together to address the barriers individuals and communities face. "Being an ally isn't just our name, it's our purpose and our promise," said Kathie Patterson, chair of the Ally Charitable Foundation and Ally's chief human resources and corporate citizenship officer. "Strong communities are built by the people who live and work in them. Listening to what's changing on the ground is how we understand evolving needs and support the organizations creating pathways to opportunity. That's what being an ally looks like in practice." Detroit: Building on a Strong Foundation Atlantic Impact introduces young adults to skilled trades through hands-on training and real-world projects, opening doors for those just beginning to explore what's possible. NPower Michigan builds on that early foundation, helping participants earn technology credentials that lead directly to quality IT jobs, while Focus: HOPE combines training for in-demand careers with wraparound support, helping individuals' complete programs and enter the workforce. Further along, the Detroit Regional Partnership equips workers with the skills to advance into higher-paying roles. As people gain footing, the pillars connect: Habitat for Humanity Detroit opens pathways to homeownership for families historically left out of that opportunity, and MiSide Wealth brings financial education into early learning centers, reaching parents at a pivotal moment for their families' financial futures. Charlotte: Expanding Reach and Impact Hearts for the Invisible Charlotte, founded during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to the rapid growth of encampments, serves as the entry point for individuals and families experiencing unsheltered homelessness, connecting them to resources and expanding access to safe, stable shelter and housing. Roof Above extends that reach, connecting people in moments of immediate need with shelter and supportive services. Charlotte Family Housing and YWCA Central Carolinas then provide direct pathways to housing stability for families experiencing homelessness, helping them regain their footing. At the far end of the continuum, Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region helps families achieve the goal of homeownership by purchasing homes with affordable mortgages. These grants are among many awarded in 2026, reflecting the Foundation's ongoing commitment to helping individuals, families and communities thrive. By supporting organizations addressing a range of community needs, the Foundation seeks to expand pathways to economic mobility in Detroit and Charlotte.
