Manhunt Ends: Person of Interest in Custody for the Shooting of New York Jets’ Kris Boyd
Bufallo, NY / December 09, 2025 – An intensive investigation led by the U.S. Marshals Service along with the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force resulted in the apprehension Dec. 8 of a person of interest involved in the shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd.
The 29-year-old Jets cornerback was shot in the abdomen on Nov. 16 just after 2 a.m. outside a popular midtown Manhattan restaurant. Boyd was initially in critical condition but has since been recovering.
The case was adopted by the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ RFTF. Investigators believed the suspect fled the New York City area to avoid capture. Following an intensive manhunt, the suspect was located in the Buffalo area. The U.S. Marshals Service in Buffalo, along with the NY/NJ RFTF, quickly developed additional information which led them to an apartment complex near the University of Buffalo.
In the early morning hours on Dec. 8, the team confirmed the suspect’s presence in a second-floor apartment. The team quickly surrounded the building and began to knock and announce their presence. The suspect was seen peeking out the apartment window looking for an escape avenue but retreated inside after seeing the team and a canine officer. As the team began to evacuate the tenants in the neighboring apartments to safety, the suspect exited his apartment with his hands up.
A search warrant was subsequently executed to locate the unrecovered firearm involved in the shooting with negative results. Of note, the suspect significantly changed his physical appearance presumably to avoid detection.
“The safe arrest of this dangerous shooting suspect was made possible through outstanding investigative teamwork by the U.S. Marshals and our local task force partners with the New York State Police, Buffalo Police Department, Niagara Falls Police Department, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, and the Erie County Sheriff’s,” said Charles Salina, U.S. Marshal for the Western District of New York.
“This arrest highlights the outstanding work of the members of the U.S. Marshals, the NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and our state and local partners in Buffalo, NY. Thanks to their tireless efforts, another dangerous individual is off the streets,” said Jhovanny Gomez, U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of New York.
USMS task forces are collaborative, multi-agency teams combining federal, state, and local law enforcement to tackle serious crimes like murder, sex offenses, and drug trafficking, making them a crucial force multiplier in community safety.
The NY/NJRFTF began operations in April 2002 and was the first regional fugitive task force to become fully operational following the Presidential Threat Protection Act of 2000. The NY/NJRFTF is the flagship that has allowed seven other regional fugitive task forces to be created across the country. With partnership agreements with over 100 federal, state, or local agencies, NY/NJRFTF has successfully apprehended over 108,000 fugitives since inception.
