'It was hell': French communities are on the front lines of Europe's new wildfires

With the wildfire emergency out of the way Thursday and 84,000 out of over 220,000 people allowed to regain in their homes in nine communities in southwest France, but not Le Porge, resident volunteers there were starting to absorb the extent of their town’s destruction and the sense that they’d been left to their own devices.
