Attorney General Bonta: DOJ Stands Ready to Enforce Governor Newsom’s Executive Order on Unsolicited Property Offers

OAKLAND — California Attorney General Rob Bonta today issued the following statement on Governor Gavin Newsom’s executive order regarding unsolicited property offers by predatory buyers:  

“Californians who have been affected by the Los Angeles wildfires need our help, and people across the state and country have been stepping up to lend a hand. Unfortunately, during times of crisis like these, there will be some people who prey on victims. Today's executive order gives homeowners breathing room and protection by prohibiting unsolicited, low-ball offers for their property in fire-affected areas. Let me be crystal clear: if you target vulnerable Californians who have not said they want to sell, we will investigate you and we will hold you accountable. I urge anyone who receives an unsolicited offer to file a report with my office at oag.ca.gov/report. Taking advantage of our families as they are grieving and processing their losses will not be tolerated. I thank Governor Newsom for continuing to take quick, aggressive action in response to the wildfires.”
