Memphis Safe Task Force Arrests 2 on Assault, Firearms Charges
Memphis, TN / December 04, 2025 – Members of the Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF) on Wednesday arrested two Memphis men who were both felons in possession of firearms, with one of the men also arrested on an aggravated assault charge.
Carlos Johnson, 26, was arrested at approximately 12:10 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 7800 block of Highway 51 North in Millington on an aggravated assault and felon in possession warrant issued out of Shelby County stemming from an incident Jan. 31 in the 3700 block of Wolf Trail Drive in which Johnson is alleged to have shot into a vehicle operated by his ex-girlfriend. MSTF officers served a search warrant at Johnson’s residence and recovered two firearms.
Gabriel Borders, 47, was arrested on a warrant for felon in possession during a traffic stop at approximately 3:15 p.m. in the 1500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. MSTF officers recovered a stolen handgun, as well as opioids and marijuana from the vehicle.
Since the launch of the Memphis Safe Task Force initiative, authorities have seized 551 illegal firearms, as well as substantial quantities of narcotics, and related contraband. These enforcement actions reflect a sustained commitment to reducing violent crime and removing dangerous weapons from Memphis neighborhoods.
“Being arrested as a felon in possession of a firearm is a serious charge for anyone with a prior felony conviction,” said U.S. Marshals Service Chief Inspector Chad Hunt, Commander of the Memphis Safe Task Force. “Every illegal gun our task force recovers means one less tool of violence in the hands of a criminal and fewer victims of violent crime.”
Launched in September 2025, the Memphis Safe Task Force is a multi-agency initiative to combat violent crime in Memphis. Composed of federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as the Tennessee National Guard, the task force is focused on arresting violent criminals, clearing warrants, seizing firearms, and locating missing children.
This operation reflects the Memphis Safe Task Force’s commitment to coordinated enforcement efforts and its mission to identify, apprehend, and hold accountable those who pose a threat to public safety.
