Sacramento Fugitive Camron Lee Apprehended in Mexico, Athena Lee and Mateo Lee Recovered and Returned to Family in California
May 19, 2026 - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Sacramento Field Office, Sacramento Police Department, and Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office are announcing the apprehension of Camron Lee, 40, and the recovery of Athena Lee, 5, and Mateo Lee, 4, from Primo Tapia in Baja California, Mexico, on May 17, 2026, following a tip from the public. The agencies worked closely with Mexico Office of the Attorney General, Mexico National Institute of Immigration, elements of the Mexican military, FBI Law Enforcement Attaché Office in Mexico City, American Citizen Services, U.S. Consulate General Tijuana, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and U.S. Department of Justice Office of International Affairs to secure Lee’s arrest and aid the reunification of Athena and Mateo with their maternal grandmother.
“Today’s announcement highlights the impact of the FBI’s reward program. A single tip brought a fugitive to justice for his alleged crime and reunited a family,” said FBI Sacramento Special Agent in Charge Sid Patel. “We are grateful for the trust Angelica Bravo’s family placed in law enforcement and the confidence the tipster placed in the FBI. This apprehension reflects the FBI’s strong partnership with domestic and international law enforcement to ensure fugitives have nowhere to hide.”
Sacramento Police Department Chief Zachary Bales said, “Today marks another step forward in the pursuit of justice for Angelica Bravo, her family, and all those impacted by her murder in July 2024. Through the tenacious efforts of the men and women of the Sacramento Police Department, and in close partnership with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Mr. Lee will now be held accountable for his actions. This case sends a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in our community, and those who harm others will be pursued with determination and resolve. Our thoughts remain with Ms. Bravo’s family and loved ones, and we hope this development brings them a measure of solace as they continue to carry this profound loss.”
"Since July 8, 2024, Angelica Bravo’s family has been waiting for justice. With the dedicated partnership of the Sacramento Police Department and the FBI, we can announce that Camron Lee is in custody and will face charges for her murder. I’m further glad to announce that the children have now been reunified with Ms. Bravo’s family, bringing them profound relief. This arrest is a powerful reminder that no matter how much time passes, our resolve to pursue justice and protect our community never fades. My sincere hope is that this brings Ms. Bravo’s family one step closer to the healing and justice they deserve,” said Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho.
The apprehension and reunification follow a nearly six-month campaign to locate Lee and his children. On December 23, 2025, the FBI Sacramento Field Office announced rewards for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of Camron Lee, 40, and recovery of Athena, 5, and Mateo, 4. The bilingual campaign was disseminated to media outlets and via social media platforms serving communities across North America.
On Monday, July 8, 2024, the Sacramento Police Department Communications Center received a call for service at a residence located on Didcot Circle in Sacramento. Upon arriving, responding officers found Angelica Bravo, Lee’s partner, deceased within the home.
During the resulting investigation, Lee was charged with four counts of possession of an assault weapon on July 26, 2024, and he was charged with murder in the Sacramento County Superior Court in Sacramento County, California, on March 5, 2025, following Sacramento County Coroner’s conclusion that homicidal violence could not be ruled out as a potential cause of death.
A federal arrest warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued for Lee on August 20, 2024, in the United States District Court in the Eastern District of California to aid locating and apprehending Lee and recovering the children who had not been seen since the July 8, 2024, incident.
Charges are mere allegations of criminal misconduct, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Lee’s return is funded by the United States Government’s “Project Welcome Home,” which provides funding to assist in the transportation of federal fugitives to the United States.
The FBI continues to collaborate with its domestic and international law enforcement partners to apprehend criminals charged with state crimes who flee the jurisdiction. Cases seeking information from the public, including fugitive matters, are posted on the FBI Sacramento Field Office’s Most Wanted web page and FBI Most Wanted application.
Anyone with information that may aid these cases may contact their local FBI office, United States embassy, or submit information online at tips.fbi.gov. The FBI does not confirm the identity of individuals who provide information to the FBI, and tips from the public remain a valuable tool for preventing, detecting, and deterring crime.
