U.S. Marshals in Alabama Capture Violent Sexual Assault Suspect
Washington, DC / June 12, 2026 – The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF), Birmingham Office, on June 9 arrested a man wanted for a violent sexual assault.
Samuel Jolly III was charged June 5 with assault, kidnapping, sodomy, and first-degree rape after the Hoover, Alabama, Police Department (HPD) began a criminal investigation into a violent sexual assault.
Based on the violent nature of the incident, the belief that Jolly was armed with a firearm and actively evading law enforcement, Hoover police requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals to locate and apprehend Jolly.
The GCRFTF located Jolly's vehicle at a Birmingham hotel in the 9000 block of Parkway East. After learning which room he had been residing in for an extended time, GCRFTF members approached the door in an attempt to apprehend him. Jolly refused to comply with task force officer’s orders to open the door. After finally making entry into the room, and following a brief struggle, officers were able to apprehend Jolly.
After GCRFTF officers observed a semi-automatic magazine on the nightstand and the butt end of a firearm sticking out of an opened drawer, they contacted HPD detectives who, after obtaining a search warrant, recovered a .22-caliber Glock handgun they stated matched the one described by the victim.
In addition to being a convicted felon, Jolly was not allowed to be in possession of a firearm while having an active protection order against him. The GCRFTF notified the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives who are also seeking federal charges against him.
