U.S. Marshals Bring Virginia Fugitive’s Run to an End in Norway, Maine
Portland, ME / September 10, 2026 – The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Maine Violent Offender Task Force (MVOTF) announces the arrest of Murray Delontae Bethea, 36, in Norway, Maine, following an interstate fugitive investigation.
A warrant for Bethea’s arrest was issued by the Prince William County Police Department (Virginia) after he allegedly fled on foot from authorities following a reported domestic violence incident on August 7, 2026, in Woodbridge, Virginia.
The U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force requested assistance from the MVOTF through a collateral investigative lead. MVOTF investigators developed information indicating Bethea might be in the Norway area. Task Force members later identified Bethea as a passenger in a Virginia-registered vehicle traveling on Main Street in Norway.
MVOTF members, working jointly with the Norway Police Department, executed a vehicle stop and safely apprehended Bethea. He was taken into custody without incident. The driver of the vehicle was released on scene. Bethea will be charged as a Fugitive from Justice and is pending extradition to Virginia on the outstanding warrants.
“This case is a clear example of what happens when federal, state, and local partners work as one,” said David St. Pierre, United States Marshal for the District of Maine. “Our Task Force and the Norway Police Department followed the lead, closed the distance and ensured a violent offender was brought back to face justice.”
The Maine Violent Offender Task Force is comprised of personnel from the U.S. Marshals Service, Maine Department of Corrections, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Maine National Guard Counterdrug Task Force.
