U.S. Marshals Apprehend Virgin Islands Man on the Run in Alabama
St. Thomas, VI / September 13, 2026 – A St. Croix man wanted since Feb. 2026 was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) in Alabama.
Luis Ventura, wanted by the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) for first degree reckless endangerment and possession of a deadly weapon during a crime of violence, was arrested on Sept. 11 by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF).
On June 16, the VIPD requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force in the District of the Virgin Islands in locating and apprehending Ventura.
During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Ventura had been residing in south Texas and later relocated to Prattville, Alabama.
On Sept. 9, contact was made with the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Montgomery, Alabama.
On Sept. 11, members of the GCRFTF arrested Ventura at his place of employment in Prattville without incident. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail, awaiting extradition to the Virgin Islands.
“This is another example of combined law enforcement efforts coming together to serve justice,” said Kwesi R. Howard, U.S. Marshal of the District of the Virgin Islands. “Persons committing crimes in the Virgin Islands and fleeing the territory cannot outrun the long arm of the law.”
One of the U.S. Marshals’ goals is to provide communities with immediate relief from violent crime by utilizing the resources and authority of the USMS, along with the resources and authority of participating local, state, and federal agencies.
